NOTES:
FIA vs SFI – Understanding the Difference
FuelTech seatbelts are available in both FIA-certified and SFI-certified options. While both meet strict motorsport safety standards, they are governed by different sanctioning bodies and have different approval processes:
-
FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile):
FIA belts are commonly used in international motorsport and are valid for a longer certification period (typically 5 years from the date of manufacture). They are widely accepted across circuit racing, rally, and many international categories. -
SFI (SFI Foundation, Inc.):
SFI belts are more commonly used in drag racing and U.S.-based motorsport categories. These belts usually have a shorter certification period (typically 2 years from the date of manufacture) and must be replaced or re-certified more frequently to meet regulations.
It’s important to check with your racing category or sanctioning body to confirm which certification is required for your application.
⚠️ Disclaimer: Harness-Tech is not responsible if the incorrect seat belt type is purchased. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure they are selecting the correct certification standard for their intended motorsport use.
